mercury’s process is shaped by contradiction, juggling multiple identities early in their career. during the day they worked as a personal assistant to prominent artists & art institutions. by night they created illicit art under multiple pseudonyms. this juxtaposition of realities sparked their interest in the concepts of ownership and authorship. to mercury the art scene was about access; you either payed for entry or created your own door.
mercury’s current practice delves into the many identities they hold. often using performance & installation to explore boundaries within language. allowing them to examining their caribbean/queer identity thru a futurist lens. mercury’s process ranges from improvisational to investigative often employing tactics of appropriation and vandalism to do so. each piece is a situation- unique in approach and execution.
